Staff and Staff Parent FAQS

What is the Time Commitment?

Leadership Staff come for 17 weeks.  Sr. Support Staff and Cabin Leaders are here for 4-12 weeks.  Sr. Lifeguards are here for 4 or more weeks.  Teleios are here for 4 weeks. Junior support staff roles run in 2 week cycles. We prefer junior support staff students apply for and commit to working within those cycles because we have a staff ratio to maintain in order to complete all tasks efficiently.  We also find that working for two (or more) weeks in a row is irreplaceable for the building of deep community and experiencing camp fully.

Where will my Student Sleep?

For their time here, all Junior Support Staff will live in the Travers Lodge. Students will share living spaces with 1-5 other volunteers of their same gender (all under 18). Our Resident Directors will be living there in the same wing of the lodge and will be present to mentor, build relationships and assist with any issues that may arise.  Spring Positions that arrive in May or June will sleep in either the lower level of the 6-plex or cabins and then move into the Travers Lodge in the summer.  Cabin Leaders live in cabins.

Medical Issues?

The camp has two Camp Health Care Coordinators on site during the summer. All medications including vitamins, allergy meds, Tylenol and Advil must be turned into the Health Care Coordinator at the beginning of the week. On the staff application is a form that must be completed by a parent or guardian giving our Heath Care Coordinator the ability to dispense medication. For the well-being of all staff and campers, if your student is unwell before camp, please contact us as they may not be able to come. If your student is sick at camp they will be sent home until they are feeling better.

What will be Expected of my Student?

Camp is a hard job so we work to balance it out with a good dose of fun, free time and friends. Jr. Support Staff, depending on their jobs, will be working approximately 8 hour days(some work a typical work day and some are on shifts). They also participate in daily team devotionals, staff chapels and helping camp to run smoothly in a variety of ways. The Resident Directors will facilitate fun staff activities most evenings, working hard to create opportunities for deep community. A sample schedule for Junior staff is found at the bottom of this page.  Leadership and Senior Support staff have schedules as variable as the positions they hold.  Cabin Leaders spend the majority of their time with their cabin groups, with some breaks built into their days.  Most work weeks run Sunday at 4 pm until Friday at 8 pm. Staff are required to stay for the end of week staff gathering at 7 and are available for pick up by 8 pm.

How to Apply?

We believe that working at camp can be a great opportunity to experience what employment is like. For this reason, we require that only the applicant fill out the staff application. Our office staff will also only communicate with the applicant regarding their application process. We appreciate your cooperation with this and believe it will inspire your student to take responsibility for their time here at camp. Students will need the names and emails of 3 references (typically a pastor/youth pastor, teacher/employer and adult Christian friend) for their application process.

Then What?

After we have received an application and ALL references have responded, we will book applicants for an interview. Leadership staff, Senior Support Staff and Cabin Leaders will be interviewed in person if possible as they are eligible.  Junior Support Staff and Teleios will be interviewed beginning in late March, early April usually over the phone. Once applicants have completed these steps, they will need to obtain a criminal record check(if age 18+), remit all needed paperwork and attend staff training on site at SABC on June16-18(FOCUS weekend).
