Financial Stuff

We understand the financial dilemma of students and young people as they decide what to do for the summer months. We try to be very proactive about this aspect of camp and have a commitment towards doing as much as we can for our summer staff. In the past we have asked all our staff to come on a volunteer basis. Starting in the summer of 2004, we adopted an initiative for people who had graduated from high school. This initiative has been very effective. This is mainly because of God’s faithfulness through generous donors! Please read through the following information and contact the office if you have any questions.

For more information about financial assistance please contact us here.

Who is eligible?
All staff who have graduated from grade 12 and are working a minimum of 4 weeks at camp are eligible for funding.
How does it work?
SABC has a commitment to paying every eligible staff member $60/week. We will coach and assist staff to raise additional funds of which SABC will match to a third. (For every $3 raised, SABC will give another $1). Combined, the maximum that staff are able to receive is $300/week. Staff may also qualify for a bonus.

What is the bonus?

Staff are eligible for a bonus of $500 if they work 10 weeks consecutively starting June 17 through to August 25. This incentive is provided knowing that sacrifices are made with not being able to attend family vacations, weddings, etc.

A top up bonus will be given dollar from dollar up to a maximum of $500 for staff members who raise above their allowable portion of donations. Any donations given over the $500 top up bonus will be pooled to help pay summer staff workers.

Is all money that I raise tax deductible?
All donations received by SABC will be issued a tax receipt. Each donor will be required to sign a document declaring the unconditional nature of the gift. All cheques must be made out to SABC.
Is there a deadline that donations can be received by?
Yes. The deadline for funds to be received by is August 20, 2012.
When will I be paid for working at SABC?
Cheques will be issued August 25, 2012.
Is there work available in May and June for counselors?
There is a job share initiative available for qualified candidates. Please contact the office for more information.
Is there a way for my American friends and relatives to donate and receive a tax donation?
Yes. There is a specific procedure that must be followed in order for this to happen. Please contact the office for special instructions regarding this.
Please also consider…
Many people only want to know the bottom line of how much they will make and allow that to be the determining factor of what they choose for a summer job. Former staff have shared that there are so many unquantifiable benefits of serving at camp. Listed are some:

  • “I spent hardly any money all summer.” Food and lodging are taken care of. There are minimal costs in working at a summer camp!
  • Staff came away feeling they had accomplished something.
  • It helped them grow beyond their wildest dreams, both spiritually as well as personally. They had opportunity to develop leadership skills, communication skills, or even learn to step out of their comfort zones.
  • They made lifelong friendships.
  • God used them to have a tremendous impact on others.
  • They appreciated an opportunity to give, and use their skills/talents to help others.
  • It’s a rewarding and fulfilling experience!
