It is less than a month away from when Spring staff come and we are getting very excited here at SABC. A lot has been happening the past few weeks and a lot more is coming up.
Here are some highlights:
- Fort washrooms are pretty much finished! They look great!
- Jon and Brendan have been busy connecting with local churches and youth groups. It has been great to see the support for SABC across Southern Alberta.
- Summer staff is coming together.. We are encouraged by who God is bringing out to SABC.
Here are a few of our upcoming events.
- Seniors Sing and Dine (May 7-8)
- Ride for a Reason (May 29- June 11)
- Family Fun Day (June 28)
We are still looking.
SABC still needs a few Lifeguards and Assistant Cooks for the summer. If you or someone you know is interested, be sure to apply!
Also, remember us in your prayers. Pray that God does a mighty work at SABC this summer!
My name is Jeffrey Scheurkogel. Most people call me Jeff. I have always attended Trinity Reformed Church in Lethbridge Alberta. There, I am fed by two excellent preachers and am surrounded by a loving and devoted church family. I attended the Lethbridge College culinary program starting in 2005 and graduated in 2008 as a red seal chef. During my apprenticeship I worked at Ric’s Grill Lethbridge, which is located in the water tower. Not long after my college years were behind me, I left Ric’s Grill to work at LA Chefs Catering and Events for 4 years. There was much learning to be done in an environment where it was always someone’s special day and it was our job to literally cater to their every need.
In 2010, Jessica and I married and we began our lives together. In the last days of 2011, we bought a condo in west Lethbridge with 3 bedrooms so that we had room to grow. About a month later, we found out we were 7 weeks into a pregnancy of triplets. God often blesses us, but he rarely blesses this…richly. It was certainly a lesson in patience and trust in Him as we waited for our children. In July 2012, our 3 children were born quite suddenly. God blessed us with healthy children, excellent doctors and nurses, government help and an overwhelming response of meals, prayers, cards etc from our church family. Sleep was rare but the college years had prepared me for lots of work and sleepless nights. I took a new job at Edith Cavell Care Centre as the head cook in October 2012. It was a different kind of challenge to feed people not for weddings, anniversaries or meetings, but every day. Again, there was much to be learned and many adjustments to be made.
This winter we were blessed with the news that we are anticipating the arrival of our fourth child. When we found out about SABC looking for a new head cook, we thought it too much of a dream job. It would never REALLY work out. However, God has a way of leading us and helping us to see his will for us if we look and listen. Next thing we knew, it was a done deal, and a pretty incredible fit for our family. We look forward to an incredible first summer at camp and to be a part of this community!
